We are now producing 11oz Photo Mugs in-house.
Printing
Mugs are printed using specific inks and paper in order to prepare the image for transfer onto the mug. This process is known as dye sublimation heat transfer printing. We have a Ricoh GX7000 printer that's dedicated for this process. You will need to make sure you have the necessary print drivers installed on your computer before attempting to print on this device.
Configuring your print driver
browse the network to \\Array25\0_DI DEPT Support\Ricoh GX7000 follow the instructions found in the document Ricohgx7000 driver settings.pdf
Transferring image onto Mug
- Preheat the Geo Knight DK3 mug press.
- Flip the on switch on the back of the unit.
- Wait for the unit to initialize.
- Press the PRG button.
- ^ so you see the program change to 1.
- Press the PRG to select program 1. (Essentially this is a preset for the heat, pressure and time combination that worked best in our testing. 400°F, pressure 7.00, 5.5 minutes.)
- While the press is warming up, position the transfer paper onto the mug.
- Use heat transfer tape to hold the print in place.
- Make sure that the paper is wrapped tightly around the mug.
- Wrap a piece of plain paper around the sublimation paper.
- Slide the mug into place and clamp the mug press down. This will start the timer.
- Once the timer expires, with an oven mitt, remove the mug and the transfer paper.
- Dunk the mug into a bath of room temperature water for about 45 seconds or so.
- Mugs- 400°F, 5.5 minutes
- Water Bottles - 400°F, 3.0 minutes
- Travel Mugs - 400°F, 1.5 minutes
- Metal Ornaments - 400°F, 1 minute 15 seconds
- Porcelain Ornaments - 400°F, 2 minutes 30 seconds--very light pressure. use nomex felt. program 5
