Process for Setting Up a New Card Reader

The card readers have two different modes, and by default they come out of the box in the incorrect mode for us to use. To configure them, do the following:

1. Run the MagTek Reader Configuration Program (only on OE05; there is a shortcut right on the C: drive).

2. From the "Reader Config Options" dropdown menu, select "MODE_KBE," hit "Change Config" button just below.

The status should now show as KBE and not HID; if necessary, you may need to unplug the reader and plug it back in. To test it, open a notepad document and swipe any card. It should show a string of characters that includes the card number and cardholder's name. If it doesn't show anything, it is still in the incorrect mode.
